*Making Ensemble* is a workshop where participants make percussion instruments out of everyday objects and play them together. It originated from the fact that simple movements such as tapping, shaking or scratching can simply change many objects into percussion. Each participant adopts everyday objects including bottles, boxes or plastic cans as a sounding box. Then he or she designs percussion in a free manner; for example, modify parts from existing instruments. Depending on the raw materials, size, form and playing mode, each instrument creates different sounds.
While producing their own instrument, the participants delve into the study of newly created sounds through a receiver connected with microphone sensor. The sounds may actually resemble noise. Nevertheless, each participant can be more attached to his or her own sounds and consider ways to improve the sounds.
Once the instruments are finished, every participant takes part in a small concert. The concert will be hold outside of the Making Lab, in the outdoor space of Anyang Art Park. Modest yet interesting sounds will assume their own roles, while simple rhythms gradually expand into a more complicated one. The entire process of ensemble playing, including preparation and practice will be video recorded.
